Response to Brief

 Explanation of Demographics

The main target audience of the Thriller will be 16 - 24, this is because while there may be themes of horror and tension which would appeal to the age group rather than if it were any younger or older. Not only this, but the characters seen in the thriller movie will be more relatable to that age group. Not only this but it isn't targeted toward a specific ethnic or gender group. This makes it much easier to appeal to the audience as we are able to target a much broader group of people, people who watch it will be able to relate more as once again it will not be targeted toward a specific ethnic or gender group. Not only this but the age group allows us to do more in the themes of maturity. A challenge however when it comes to making productions for this age group is that while the majority of the group may be rather young and therefore leads to them not being able to understand some aspects of the media product you are trying to produce. This can lead to an oppositional reading from the audience that can then spoil the movie for some as they do not understand what the producer is trying to anchor in the meaning of the text.

Conventions

The main conventions I will use in my thriller movie are enigmas and other narrative tools such as plot twists and red herrings. This will enable me to be able to create an effective form of tension for the people who are watching and therefore give the audience a positive experience when watching the movie. Not only this, but it removes the possibility of the audience getting lost when watching the movie.

Industry requirements

Some regulatory bodies that we will have to consider while making the movie are Ofcom and the BBFC. The BBFC regulate all films that are made within the UK, and making sure the themes In the movie meet the age rating that it receives. Due to this film not actually including anything graphic but having themes of tension that wouldn't be suitable for anyone younger than 16 years old, I believe that the age group I am targeting the movie towards is suitable as once again the age range I'm targeting this movie to are 16 - 24 year olds. As for Ofcom, they regulate all media that are radio and TV, therefore they will also need to make sure that the text I produce follows their codes and similarly to the BBFC there is nothing in the movie I'm going to produce that could not fit the age range of my target audience.

Film Classification

As for the actual age rating of my film, following the BBFC's rating policies my movie would be a 15, as it doesn't go into detail about things enough to make it an 18, but it does have violent themes and tones in the movie which would give it its age rating of 15. It wouldn't have any swear words that may bring it to an 18 and also doesn't go into enough detail in things such as violence to make it an 18. It would have implied meanings but doesn't actually show anything.

Medium

The medium for the text I am going to produce is a film. As in the brief is says that Im going to have to make a thriller FILM in which wouldn't be possible if I chose any other medium other than a film.
