Swot analysis of first draft

 Swot Analysis of First draft

STRENGTHS

We can see that in the start of the edit is a wide shot where the main characters are playing kick ball while having the hedge in the background of the shot. This represents the hedge as almost a third character in the opening sequence also being introduced. This is a strength for the first draft as the audience are instantly shown what one of the main aspects of the opening sequence is going to be, which is the hedge. This creates a good connotation to the rest of the media product as it connotes that something is going to happen with the hedge and that the audience are going to need to watch out for it.

Not only this, but all of the shots are handheld, this is a positive as none of the shots are "stable", which therefore means that the audience cannot feel that stability which the camera provides. The fact that its always handheld and always moving makes it unstable. This is a strength as it reflects the feeling of uncertainty which is conventional in a thriller genre.

WEAKNESSES

One of the main weaknesses in the first draft is how loud the wind is. There are some scenes where you cannot really hear the actors speaking which can lead to the audience finding it hard to become immersed. This is something that can be fixed by either adding filters to the audio or reshooting some lines and matching them with the actors, this allows for the audience to gain the effect of the actor delivering the line and therefore isn't as big of a problem. However this is something that happens throughout the entire first draft and therefore will need to be fixed.

OPPORTUNITIES

One of the opportunities we can see for the thriller opening sequence is that we make it so that in the further editing there is a lot of tension that can be possibly built through the editing. This means that in the end product we have the opportunity to build even more tension throughout the rest of the opening sequence. Not only this, but because its only an opening sequence, it allows for the audience to be prepared fort he rest of the movie as it introduced the character of "The Hedge" for the rest of the audience.

THREATS

One of the main threats that I may tackle in my Final edit is the wind and trying to go around it. The wind can lead to a lot of disruptions for the audience when they're trying to listen to the opening sequence and as i've already said this is something that can disrupt the sequence. If this isn't fixed it can lead to the opening sequence not landing with the effect that is intended and might lead to the audience not finding interest in the film.
