Quantitate Audience Research Analysis

Audience Research Analysis

Question One:

Forms response chart. Question title: What is your favourite type of thriller. Number of responses: 15 responses.

Analysing the responses for this question, we are able to see that the most popular type of thriller is a Psychological thriller. This means in order to influence my product I'll make sure that the thrill of my movie is mainly focused on the mental aspect of the film, looking for things that aren't entirely obvious but build tension through psychological aspects such as the fear of the unknown.

Question Two:

Forms response chart. Question title: What age range would you want the characters to be. Number of responses: 15 responses.
From the responses to this question, I'm able to analyse that they would want a majority of a younger audience. This may be due to the fact they are able to relate more to the character and therefore get a better experience due to being able to much easier put themselves into the character's shoes. This would influence my product by making sure that the characters in my thriller movie are within that age range.

Question Three:

Forms response chart. Question title: How many main characters would you like to see. Number of responses: 15 responses.
The audience also said that they would like there to be a max of 2 main characters in the thriller movie. This is mostly because having anymore may become hectic and hard to keep track of, however only having 2 is easy to keep track of and doesn't create any confusion in the audience. This would influence my thriller by making sure that there are only two main characters as to not confuse my audience while they are watching.

Question Four:

Forms response chart. Question title: What time frame would you expect the movie to take place in. Number of responses: 15 responses.

Looking at my audience's answers here, they all said that they would like to see the movie take place during the afternoon. I believe this is due to the audience struggling to see whats on the screen if it is any darker which can therefore lead to a spoiled experience and a break in the suspension of disbelief. The reason why I don't think they chose the morning however is because it isn't really a scary setting for a movie to take place. Therefore this would influence my product by shooting the movie during the afternoon as to appease to the audience's needs.

Question Five:

Forms response chart. Question title: How much dialogue would you want in a movie. Number of responses: 15 responses.

Analysing my audience's response to this question I'm able to see that they would prefer to have only a decent amount of dialogue during the film. While dialogue can help drive the narrative of a film it can also be distracting in some cases where there is too much dialogue and therefore only having the amount you NEED can be a good middle ground, which is what I believe my target audience were thinking while answering this question. To reflect this into my product, the script will only have the amount of dialogue that is needs to make sure that it doesn't distract or take from the main narrative of the film.

Question Six:

Forms response chart. Question title: What type of relationship should the main cast have. Number of responses: 15 responses.
Delving into the answers for this question we can see that the audience mostly likes movies where the relationship between the main characters is that of a friendly one rather than something such as a family or relationship bond. This may be because of the fact it enables the main character to have a good chemistry off of each other and are able to elevate each other's character. You're able to go into more depth with friendship than if you were to chose the other options and therefore you can flesh out your characters more and make them more interesting. Overall, to reflect this in my work I'm going to establish a friendly relationship between my characters as to be able to get that chemistry I would only be able to get through a friendly bond.

Question Seven:

Forms response chart. Question title: What atmosphere should the movie have. Number of responses: 15 responses.

In these answers we are able to see an overwhelming liking toward the movie having a more serious atmosphere than anything else. This is due to the fact that it is most likely in their eyes the best way to create a movie with tension; yes you can still create a thriller movie with comedy in it and make it upbeat, however it is much better watching a thriller movie with a serious atmosphere as it makes it able to be taken much more seriously and the tension lands much better. To portray this in my product I would make sure that the film I produce has a serious film so that the audience can take the movie as more of a thriller movie than a comedy.

Question Eight:

Forms response chart. Question title: What narrative device do you like most in movies. Number of responses: 15 responses.
Analysing this question, we are able to see that the narrative device that the audience likes to see most in the movies they watch is "Chekhov's Gun". This states that if a "Gun" is introduced into the narrative then it HAS to be fired throughout the film. This is metaphorical and the gun can be anything such as an antagonist, at some point in the movie they HAVE to do something. This would reflect in my narrative as anything I introduce will have to do something to do with the narrative at one point. Therefore making sure that the "gun" is sure to be fired at some point.

Question Nine:

Forms response chart. Question title: What camera shots do you prefer seeing. Number of responses: 15 responses.

Looking into the results for question nine, we are able to analyse that they mostly like seeing the film portrayed through mid shots. However they also do seem to like close ups and establishing shots, so while I won't make them the main shot I use I will be sure to incorporate throughout the movie. Mid shots are effective to use when you're trying to focus on one specific person without making their entire body be in the shot, therefore allowing for the audience to easily follow whats happening.

Question Ten:

Forms response chart. Question title: What whether conditions would you like to see. Number of responses: 15 responses.

Finally, looking at the answers from the audience for this question we are able to see that they preferrer for the weather to be Windy. This is because it creates an atmosphere in the thriller that cannot be achieved if it were to be sunny. While is being Rainy or storming may make it more suspenseful it also doesn't make sense for the narrative of my thriller as they're going to be on a muddy field, this would cause risk as to the crew as well as a chaotic shot that can lead the audience being left confused. I would make sure that the weather is windy while I'm recording to make sure that it meets their needs.
