Analysis of how conventional my offline edit is.
In my offline edit, we can see that at the very start is a drawn-out establishing shot of our two focus characters kicking a ball back and forth. This is conventional for a thriller as it creates a lot of enigma codes. It does this through the fact that the shot leaves a lot to be questioned. It doesn't explain much as to why they are there, who they are or what time it is. Not only this, but the silence of the clip also creates an unsettling atmosphere and therefore reflects a convention typically found in a thriller.
Another example of a typical thriller convention I've used in my offline edit is the fact that the camera isn't stable. This connotes to the fact that the entire thing isn't stable, even in the camera handling. By making the camera handling all handheld with no support it makes it so that the audience has no comfort in the recording being all smooth and therefore throughout the opening sequence they cannot really guess when something will happen, leaving them is continuous paranoia.
Another example of typical conventions used in Thrillers is that we can see the characters talking back and forth with each other. This is a typical convention used in thrillers which allows for the characters to be introduced to the audience. This is used in thriller movies as you want to come to know the characters who you are going to be watching throughout the movie. This makes it easier for the audience to watch the entirety of the movie without getting confused or even bored of the characters.
In another shot, we can see that the weather starts to become rainy which is a very common convention which is found in thriller movies. By shooting in the rain, it acts as pathetic fallacy to reflect that the narrative of the opening sequence is starting to become chaotic, this puts the audience on edge as with the chaos they can assume that something is slowly going wrong in the opening sequence and makes them worry about the characters who we have previously been introduced to.
Throughout the opening sequence however, we can hear that the wind is interfering with the mic quality which isn't a convention of thrillers. This is because in thriller movies you want to be able to hear small things that can be used in the narrative however in my opening sequence offline edit the wind is very loud and therefore I will need to change this in my final draft.
